US • States & Territories
The United States
56 places: all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the five inhabited territories. Here's where they sit before you start.
The Lower 48
The contiguous states fill the middle of the continent, between Canada and Mexico, from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
Alaska and Hawaii
Two states apart from the rest: Alaska, past Canada in the far northwest, and Hawaii, out in the middle of the Pacific.
Washington, D.C.
A city, not a state, on the Potomac between Maryland and Virginia. A ring marks it until you zoom in.
The Caribbean Territories
Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, east of the Dominican Republic.
The Pacific Territories
Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, far out in the western Pacific, and American Samoa, south of the equator, between Hawaii and New Zealand.
Where You'll Start
You'll start with the anchors, a few places to hang the rest on: California, Washington, Texas, Florida, New York, Maine, Michigan, Montana, and Utah. Then chapter by chapter, or the whole deck at random.
